Meet the Buyer – Blue Gate Antwerp & Green Energy Park

Date: 20 November 2019

Venue: Paleis 10, Avenue de Miramar 11, 1020 Brussels (Belgium)

Innovation needs of Blue Gate Antwerp

Blue Gate Antwerp (BGA) is the climate neutral business park reserved for innovative companies with a well-defined ambition: linear growth through circular operations. The site is located just next to Antwerp.

It is BGA’s ambition to develop a mobility hub on the site, that supports an evolution to fossil free and shared mobility services for the site as well as towards the city.

Logistics is to be shared by the companies on-site to reduce (half) empty rides of the trucks. Also, if possible, several companies can load the same truck to go to the city instead of several trucks. Shared cars can be used on-site, but will probably be more used by city of Antwerp, so in this way Blue Gate shares their parking and loading facilities with the city. The mobility hub must operate on fossil free fuels and in the future will completely consist of autonomous vehicles (for now this is not a necessity, however the infrastructure has to be ready/adjustable).

Innovation and needs of Green Energy Park

Green Energy Park (GEP) is a centre of expertise in sustainable energy systems, mobility, smart regions and healthcare technology. An on-site green datacentre offers sufficient capacity to support calculations by research institutes and companies.

On the GEP site, a multi-energy grid will be build. The multi energy grid will consist of a (mainly) low temperature thermal grid and an electric grid. The thermal grid, using recovered heat from the data centre, will heat the buildings on the site, as well as a residential area nearby. The thermal grid needs to be equipped for bi-directional exchange between the business area and the residential area, since each end-user can consume or inject heat into this grid.
