Environmental, Social and corporate Governance (ESG) for your household and offices
As a founding member, The Cheeky Panda are proud to be supporting and working with Cambridge Cleantech to promote green business and innovation. Cheeky Panda is keen to implement ESG into your household and offices
What is ESG?
The term ESG means Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance. These three elements are often used to measure the sustainability and societal impact of a company or SME. ESG is often used by experts to indicate potential financial performances.
The Cheeky Panda is a B Corp which offers a range of sustainable bamboo tissue and hygiene products that are available across Europe, USA, China and the Middle East with some of the world’s top retailers, including Boots, MonoPrix and Carrefour.
As a category disruptor, we believe household tissue has seen very little innovation over the past few decades. Consumers seek more authentic and environmentally friendly brands, and this is leading to a mass adoption of products which are kind to the planet. With over 1,000 5-star reviews across multiple platforms including Amazon, Morrison’s and Ocado, The Cheeky Panda is leading the way when it comes to shopping for sustainable essentials.
Co-founder Chris Forbes said:
I met Martin from Cambridge Cleantech back in 2016 and subsequently attended a number of events including 3 of the venture weeks. I was impressed by the entrepreneurs and how they were connecting innovators with big business to tackle the big SDG goals and I knew we had to be a part of it.
In addition to the retail market, The Cheeky Panda has a rapidly growing B2B market supplying Central Government, Professional Services, Hospitality, Healthcare and Education sectors.
This rapid growth would not be possible without partnering with the UKs largest Janitorial and office supplies companies: Bunzl Cleaning and Hygiene, Lyreco UK and Ireland and PHS Direct (Add Hyperlinks). The Cheeky Panda also work in conjunction with Facility Management Firms such as Mitie, Incentive FM, Churchill, CBRE and OCS to bring sustainable solutions to as many offices and organisations as possible!
The Cheeky Panda is a low carbon solution – the complete range is FSC approved and carbon balanced. For every 3,000 guests/staff, the range can save a massive 43 tonnes of carbon!
As an organisation, we have seen the devastating effects that plastic can have on the world. 359 million tonnes of plastic are produced to meet human need yearly, with an almost unbelievable 1/3rd of UK fish consumed containing microplastics.
We have created a completely plastic-free tissue range to help your office/organisation reduce single use plastics. The range helps to reduce scope 3 carbon emissions and single use plastics whilst building a positive culture around staff well-being and sustainability.
Martin Garratt, CEO of Cambridge Cleantech comments:
We are delighted to be partnering with Cheeky Panda on our joint series of ‘Climate Action 2021’ events, through which we are celebrating the work of cleantech innovators in helping to achieve the targets set out in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Cheeky Panda provides an inspiring example of bringing innovative products to market which are far more sustainable than existing alternatives and can help make a real impact on climate change issues.
GRIDSERVE Case Study:
GRIDSERVE provide a sustainable solution for charging electric vehicles on the move – they’re helping shape the future of road travel. The site in Braintree features a retail space, with brands including WHSmith, Costa Coffee, Booths, Post Office, and Gourmade.
The facility also includes a waiting lounge, free superfast WiFi, a dedicated kid’s area, wellbeing area and business meeting room pods, so drivers can keep busy while their car charges. GRIDSERVE, which operates the Electric Forecourt, sources all the energy from a 10 MWp solar farm 44 miles away that can produce enough energy to drive 5,000 electric cars every year.
The Cheeky Panda is the sustainable tissue of choice at the GRIDSERVE site being used across the facilities. This is in partnership with Mitie and Bunzl Cleaning and Hygiene.
Michael D’Onofrio, Advisory Board Member at GRIDSERVE shares
At GRIDSERVE we didn’t want to just be a sustainable energy and electric car charging company we wanted the whole site to be sustainable from an eco-building, using rain harvesting and Cheeky Panda in the toilets and in the shop. We wanted to showcase you can have a fully sustainable operation and we hope to inspire others to follow.
Chris concludes with
GRIDSERVE is a great example of the future of cars and charging and how promoting electric vehicles and promote all round sustainability from rain harvesting to bamboo in the toilets. We’d love to do more of these partnerships.
