Summerside Advancing its path towards Net Zero
SUMMERSIDE, PE – Today the City of Summerside announced that Aspin Kemp & Associates of Montague, Prince Edward Island has been awarded the three contracts to build Summerside Sunbank Solar and Battery Utility System valued at over $55 million.
Summerside Sunbank Project involves the construction of a new 21‐megawatt solar farm and a battery storage system. This renewable energy source will improve the energy efficiency of the City of Summerside and allow the City to meet 62 percent of its electricity needs through renewable energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 21,000 tonnes per year.
This project is another milestone step in Summerside’s goal of becoming net zero through its various innovation platforms. This system will increase Summerside’s renewable energy penetration and combined with the battery will increase the predictability of all Summerside Renewable Energy Assets.
