Cambridge Cleantech Delivers ‘Cutting Edge’ Business Support Programme for Indian Start-ups

Cambridge Cleantech, the UK’s longest standing cleantech membership network, has delivered the UK-India Tech Startup Programme, a key business support programme for Indian tech startups. This was a major programme that provided cutting edge business support and access to international investment opportunities to enable Indian Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) to flourish.

Over 100 Indian companies were involved in the programme from sectors that can help India deliver the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as cleantech (including energy, mobility, smart cities), agritech, healthtech and edutech. The leading ten companies had been selected to receive dedicated 1 to 1 mentoring support sessions throughout the programme.

 

The UK – INDIA Tech Startup is a programme  supported by the British High Commission, New Delhi that provides cutting edge commercialisation support and access to international investment opportunities for India’s leading technology startups. The Top 10 companies took part in an accelerator to learn and apply the Triple Chasm methodology and were supported by Indian and UK mentors.

 

Sylvie Russell, Head of Operations, Cambridge Cleantech, who is leading the programme said,

“Creating a strong environment where SMEs can learn and grow is a key factor to their capacity to scale up and secure funding. The programme enabled Cambridge Cleantech to share its 10-year experience to help Indian start-ups to prosper commercially and help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, thus helping to alleviate the global climate crisis. The programme events were open to Cambridge Cleantech members and so it was a fantastic opportunity for all to connect, learn, share and build strong relationships.”

 

The top 10 Indian entities had undergone tailored training sessions that included masterclasses, events and individual meetings to provide business advice and guidance. The business support sessions and the masterclasses were open to the selected 10 Indian companies and to all members of the Cambridge Cleantech network.

The final stage of the programme included a ‘Pitch Day’ where the selected entities had pitched their ideas to a high-profile group of investors who are a part of Cambridge Cleantech’s membership network. The personalised 1-1 mentoring sessions and strategic Masterclasses were conducted by UK experts and academics mostly from the University of Cambridge. Helena Kim an Executive Coach and an External Faculty member from Cambridge Judge Business School who delivered one of the masterclasses said

 

“It was my absolute pleasure to teach the social intelligence masterclass. In addition to entrepreneurial passion, high functioning relationships are essential to any start-up success. Social intelligence is the answer to understanding, communicating and influencing in these dynamic relationships between co-founders and with their key stakeholders”.

 

An attendee of Kim’s session said that “This session was truly game changer for me in my professional & personnel life too. I am grateful to all of you for curating such wonderful session.”

 

 

 

The India-UK Tech Start Program is the right initiative in global efforts to fight the climate crisis. Supporting innovation with business support and providing funding opportunities will certainly have a positive impact on the cleantech sector and will intensify the race towards net zero.

 

The programme is operated by UK based Cambridge Cleantech in collaboration with Triple Chasm. Cambridge Cleantech is a business network and a powerful catalyst in the cleantech sector responding to global sustainability challenges. Triple Chasm is a business consultancy firm which helps innovators scale up using its ‘Triple Chasm Model’. The model which is built on top of the real world data of more than 3000 global companies aims to help startups address various challenges.

Pitch Day Event:

 

The final stage of the programme included the ‘Pitch Day’ Event where the selected 10 entities pitched their ideas to a group of high-profile investors. The event was a great success. Nearly 20 independent meetings were scheduled between investors and SME’s at the end of the event.
