Belgium State Visit: Cambridge Cleantech And GreenWin Sign MoU, Pledge To Accelerate The Pace To Net Zero

Cambridge Cleantech, the UK’s leading membership organisation in the cleantech sector and GreenWin, Belgium’s promising sustainable innovation cluster have signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the signing ceremony of the Belgian Economic Mission. The ceremony, organised by the Belgian Foreign Trade Agency (BFTA) took place in the presence of Princess Astrid of Belgium. Ten new partnerships in different sectors were concluded between the two countries.

“Delighted to be invited to sign an MoU with our new Belgian partners GreenWin in London, in the company of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium. We will work together to jointly promote clean growth in Belgium and the UK to help overcome the climate crisis.” said Martin Garratt, Chief Executive of Cambridge Cleantech.

The Belgian State-level mission visited the UK from the 8th to the 12th May 2022. This is possibly the first high-profile mission of an EU Member State to the UK since Brexit, showing the significant political and commercial ties between the two countries. VIP Delegates included HRH Princess Astrid, the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sophie Wilmès as well the Ministers of Trade of the three Belgian regions HE Jan Jambon from Flanders, HE Willy Borsus from Wallonia and HE Pascal Smet from Brussels along with a considerable number of leading Belgian corporates’ CEOs. The mission was focused on three main axes: Cleantech, Lifesciences and Food which are the three key strategic trade areas between the two countries. There were a total of 415 Belgian delegates from 220 companies.

Cambridge Cleantech organised the Cleantech section of the Belgian Trade Mission to the UK in partnership with the AWEX, focusing on Energy and Green Buildings. The delegates had the opportunity to hear from experts and their UK counterparts, at the Maxwell Centre in Cambridge, and made visits to Cranfield University, BedZed in London and a retrofitting site in Maldon with Energiesprong.
