Our previous two sessions looked at Fashion and the Future of Energy Systems. Now we’ve just got one session left…

HOW CAN OCEANS CONTRIBUTE TO OUR NET ZERO GOALS?

Sam Johnston, Global OTEC

Sam is a mechanical engineer at Global OTEC, which does Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion. He spent the first 6 years of his career working in the Oil and Gas industry designing various components and structures for floating O&G assets. He received an opportunity to start working in offshore renewable energy and hasn’t looked back since. He has been a part of the OTEC project since the beginning working through various different concepts to find a cost-effective solution for Offshore OTEC, utilising the technologies and techniques of the O&G industry.

His talk will focus on what OTEC is, why they’ve chosen to pursue it as a method of energy generation, what their project is, the future of OTEC and what OTEC means to people in the tropics.
