Manufacturing and the Circular Economy Workshop
Date: 13 February 2023
Time: 9:30 AM – 16:30 PM GMT
Venue: The Manufacturing Technology Centre Pilot Way Coventry CV7 9JU
The Manufacturing and the Circular Economy one day workshop, aims to bring together policy makers, funding bodies, industry and academia.
About this event
Delivery of net zero by 2050 requires development and implementation of a circular economy approach to energy-intensive materials. For example, the reliance on global supplies of rare, or critical, elements linked to battery manufacturing and the deployment of offshore wind farms could present significant future challenges. Onshore recycling and re-processing of high-value materials presents significant sustainability, materials security and economic opportunities. The establishment of new manufacturing and de-manufacturing processes will be essential in ensuring materials are readily re-processable. The Midlands is well placed to take a leading role in high-value recycling within the UK.
The Manufacturing and the Circular Economy one day workshop aims to bring together policy makers, funding bodies, industry and academia to understand the current economic, technological and industrial landscapes for recycling, reuse and remanufacture of high value components. Key challenges and opportunities will be identified to strengthen and accelerate recycling activity in the West Midlands. The understanding and alignment of all stakeholders is critical to unlock the full potential of an on-shore, localised recycling industry in the region and the UK as a whole.
This event is jointly organised by the Manufacturing Technology Centre and the University of Birmingham.
